Finding Your Voice: The Third V

Understanding your top-level vision and values is so important in giving direction, purpose, and engagement to your life and leadership.  I would like to suggest that the third installation to this triad is voice.  I refer to voice as the look and feel of your leadership.  Clinton, Bush, and Obama have all served as President of the United States. However, they all brought a different voice to the role.

What does your voice sound like?  I don’t mean the pitch of your voice, but rather the look and feel of your leadership.  Your voice is the unique you. It is the way that only you live and lead.  The process of finding your voice includes your natural leadership profile as well as the context in which you find yourself.  I like to use the DISC Profile as a starting point of understanding your voice.  I then like to dialogue with leaders and see where they are at in finding their voice in their current role.  It usually takes time to find your voice in a given role.

Give some thought to your voice in 2012.  The better you understand your voice, the more effective you will be in your leadership.
